Each tour consists of eleven (11) Captains assigned to a company (7 Engines, 3 Ladders, 1 Rescue), two (2) Roving Captains, two (2) Battalion Chiefs, and (1) Deputy Chief.

A Message From Our President

When you dial 9-1-1 for an emergency, or a service requested from the City of Elizabeth's Fire Department, you expect and deserve excellence in public safety. The members of the Elizabeth Fire Officers Association Local 2040 work tirelessly to ensure we deliver and supervise the men and women that are going to meet your expectations. Simultaneously, we work to secure equitable and acceptable wages, benefits, working conditions, and supervision for our members who are often called to act in life and death emergencies.

Today, our primary focus is the safety and supervision of all members of the department. As we move forward, we're focusing on keeping our members and their families physically, financially, and emotionally secure while on the job and in retirement. However, we can not forget those that came before us and created the path for future generations that we are on today. These individuals need to be honored and treated with dignity as we continue to fight for a cost-of-living allowance (COLA) that was shamefully stripped from their retirement.

Protecting and serving the interests of our members means that we need to have open communication with the administration of our City and Department. This communication fosters cooperation that leads to the advances we achieve. Our association is politically active and builds relationships with those that reflect our values – the same values exhibited by our members every day. The strength of our association comes from the solidarity of all of our ranks and the participation from every member that is required to keep this organization running. We are truly stronger together.

On behalf of the Executive Board and each member of the Elizabeth Fire Officers Association Local 2040, thank you for the support and opportunity to serve you. It’s truly an honor and privilege to serve as president of this great association.

In solidarity,
David Bialas
