About Local 0316

The Oshkosh Fire Department protects the City of Oshkosh’s population of 66,083 people and is located 88 miles north of Milwaukee and 50 miles south of Green Bay. The City of Oshkosh is 26.91 sq. miles and is positioned on the west bank of Lake Winnebago with the Fox River running through its core. The city has highways and rail lines that run through it, and it is home to a private airport. The City of Oshkosh is also known as Wisconsin’s “Event City”. Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors come to Oshkosh to enjoy concerts, sporting events, and airshows.

The Oshkosh Fire Department has received the highest rating of 1/10 by the Insurance Services Office (ISO) based on their ability to prevent, respond to, and suppress fires within the City in an efficient and timely manner. This is a prestigious designation because less than 1% of the country's fire departments have received this top rating. The Oshkosh Fire Department staffs and operates six fire stations that are strategically located throughout the city. All stations are staffed 24-hours a day and we are a completely career department that provides a full range of services to its community.

The department’s 110 team members provide fire protection, fire prevention, emergency medical services, special event coverage, and emergency management to the City of Oshkosh. We also provide advanced life support ambulance services to numerous nearby cities, townships, and villages. As a full service department we are prepared to respond to many other types of special circumstances such as but not limited to: hazardous materials spills, ice and open water rescue, dive rescue, and we also provide aircraft rescue firefighting.
